Yoshi mailed me the following information this morning about 'mountain' classifications in Japan:
'As far as I know, in England mountains must have 1,000 feet height or more.
In Japan, there is no strict rule. If people in each local region would like to call "mountain", the local city (or town) register to Japanese government (Geographical Survey Institute) as "mountain".
Japanese people do not care about height....In Tokushima (one of prefectures in Shikoku Island) there is a mountain named Benten Yama that has only 6 meters high.'
